Kitex Garments Limited Company Overview
Kitex Garments Limited, incorporated in 1992 and promoted by Sabu M Jacob, is based in Kizhakkambalam, Kerala. It makes cotton and organic cotton garments for infants aged 0–24 months and exports mainly to the United States and Europe. Its customers include large retailers such as Walmart, Target and Amazon.
The company is in the middle of a large expansion. Through its subsidiary Kitex Apparel Parks Limited (KAPL), it is building plants in Telangana. The Warangal unit began operating on 15 September 2025. This expansion is mostly funded with debt, which explains why FY26 finance costs rose so sharply. A scheme to merge the textile business of promoter group company Kitex Childrenswear into Kitex Garments is still awaiting regulatory approvals.

Other income of ₹52.33 cr also includes ₹48.58 cr of unrealised foreign-exchange gains and government grants. The owners’ profit stays positive only because minority shareholders absorb ₹19.11 cr of subsidiary losses.

Expert Commentary on the Kitex Garments Limited Dividend
By keeping the dividend at ₹0.50 in a loss year, the board is signalling that the payout is a floor it will defend. At ₹9.98 crore, it costs little compared with the group’s ₹1,199 crore of gross debt.
The standalone numbers should concern investors more. The auditors issued a qualified opinion for the third year running. The issue is a ₹27.76 crore investment in associate Kitex USA LLC, whose net worth has been fully eroded. In August 2026, India Ratings cut its rating on the company from IND A to IND BBB+/Negative. It cited US tariff costs, a slow Warangal ramp-up and debt-funded capex. The dividend itself is small, but the balance sheet behind it has weakened considerably.
Kitex Garments Limited Future Outlook
The near-term trend is still negative. Consolidated EPS was negative in four straight quarters: −₹0.08, −₹0.47, −₹0.20 and −₹0.45 (Q1 FY27, on sales of ₹158 crore).
Three factors will decide what happens to future dividends:
- How quickly the Telangana plants reach full utilisation.
- Whether US tariffs on Indian garments are eased through a trade deal.
- Whether the proposed ₹3,000 crore QIP goes ahead. That amount is larger than the company’s current ₹2,348 crore market cap, so a QIP of that size would cut per-share dividend capacity unless profits recover.

The recommendation came alongside a consolidated FY26 loss and the third straight qualified audit opinion on the standalone accounts.

Kitex Garments Limited Dividend Record Date and Key Dates Timeline
- 30-05-2026: Board recommended the dividend
- 01-09-2026: AGM notice published in newspapers
- 18-09-2026: Record date and ex-date
- 22–24-09-2026: Remote e-voting
- 25-09-2026: 34th AGM held (video conference)

Under India’s T+1 settlement cycle, the ex-date fell on the same day as the record date. Investors needed to hold the shares by the close on 17 September 2026 to qualify. The company has not disclosed an exact payment date; it has said only that payment will be made within 30 days of the AGM.
Kitex Garments Limited Dividend Yield: The Face-Value Illusion
The “50% dividend” headline is calculated on the ₹1 face value. What shareholders actually earn depends on the market price, which is 117 times higher.
- Yield at CMP ₹117.68 (25-09-2026): 0.42%
- Yield at the announcement-day price (₹161.65, 29-05-2026): 0.31%
- Yield at the 52-week high of ₹232.70: 0.21%
Yield reality check: the yield has risen from 0.31% to 0.42% because the share price has fallen 27% since the announcement. The dividend itself has not grown. This is a yield rise caused by a falling price, not by a stronger business.
Kitex Garments Limited Dividend History Analysis
Many aggregators show the dividend falling from ₹1.50 to ₹0.50. That is incorrect. Adjusted for the January 2025 2:1 bonus issue, the dividend has been unchanged at ₹0.50 per share for six straight years (FY21–FY26), including the FY25 year of record profits.
Classification: Consistent Payer, with no dividend growth. Kitex Garments Limited has paid a dividend every year since at least FY18, with no cuts, suspensions or special dividends. What has changed is the payout ratio, which moved from 7% in FY25 to 169% in FY26 because earnings collapsed while the dividend stayed the same.
Kitex Garments Limited Dividend vs Profit Performance
Operating leverage turned sharply against the company. Revenue fell 32.1%, but EBITDA fell 85.9%, and the EBITDA margin dropped from 20.4% to 4.3%.
Cost pressure
- Employee cost fell only 5.6%, so it rose from 16.1% to 22.4% of revenue.
- Other expenses rose from 20.4% to 23.3% of revenue.
Below EBITDA
- Finance cost: +222.7% (₹45.23 cr)
- Depreciation: +183.1% (₹44.58 cr)
New Telangana capacity started carrying depreciation and interest costs before it produced meaningful revenue. Over five years, sales have grown at a CAGR of only 7.9% (Screener.in).
Kitex Garments Limited Cash Flow Analysis
Consolidated operating cash flow of ₹345.78 cr looks strong next to a loss. However, ₹343.08 cr of it came from a working-capital release. Receivables fell 63.3% and inventory fell 20.8%. Before working-capital changes, operating cash flow was just ₹32.95 cr.
Capex of ₹327.92 cr left free cash flow of ₹17.86 cr, covering the dividend 1.8x. Interest actually paid in cash was ₹98.78 cr, more than double the ₹45.23 cr charged to the P&L. The difference of ₹53.55 cr suggests interest is being capitalised into capex.
Funding source: the dividend is being paid from a one-time release of working capital and existing cash reserves, not from current earnings. Net borrowings rose by ₹116.88 cr during the year.
Kitex Garments Limited Balance Sheet Strength
Consolidated (31-03-2026)
- Gross debt: ₹1,199.38 cr (up from ₹1,082.50 cr)
- Cash and bank balances: ₹152.26 cr
- Net debt: ₹1,047.12 cr; debt-to-equity 0.97x
- EBITDA covers interest only 0.63x
Standalone (the listed parent)
- Gross debt: ₹208.74 cr; cash ₹126.53 cr
- Net debt: ₹82.20 cr; debt-to-equity 0.18x
- Guarantees for KAPL: sanctioned ₹2,023 cr, of which ₹990.64 cr was outstanding
The parent company looks healthy on its own, but it guarantees ₹990.64 crore of its subsidiary’s borrowings. That makes the consolidated numbers the true measure of risk.
Kitex Garments Limited Dividend Sustainability
- Earnings coverage: 0.6x consolidated EPS (₹0.30), so earnings do not cover the dividend. Standalone coverage is 5.7x (EPS ₹2.85).
- Payout ratio: 169% consolidated; 17.5% standalone.
- FCF coverage: 1.8x, but only because of the one-time working-capital release.
- Cash coverage: 15.3x consolidated cash, which is comfortable.
- Debt trend: rising while the dividend is being paid.
Verdict: Moderately Sustainable. Kitex Garments Limited can easily afford ₹9.98 crore from cash on hand, and standalone profits cover it comfortably. However, group earnings do not cover the dividend. If losses continue in FY27, holding ₹0.50 will depend on drawing down reserves rather than on profits.
Kitex Garments Limited vs Garment Peers
| Company | Yield | Payout | ROE | ROCE | CFO (₹ cr) | Debt (₹ cr) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kitex Garments | 0.42% | 169% | −3.2% | 1.6% | 346 | 1,199 |
| S P Apparels | 0.31% | 7% | 11.2% | 14.0% | 209 | 419 |
| Pearl Global | 0.56% | 24% | 21.0% | 19.9% | 398 | 943 |
| K P R Mill | 0.44% | 20% | 15.7% | 19.6% | 1,108 | 596 |
| Gokaldas Exports | 0.00% | 0% | 3.1% | 7.7% | 52 | 1,273 |
Kitex’s yield is in line with the sector average, but it has the lowest ROCE and the only negative ROE in the group. It is also the only company paying out more than 100% of consolidated earnings. S P Apparels, its closest infant-wear peer, pays a lower yield backed by an 11% ROE.
Kitex Garments Limited Promoter Dividend Impact
- Promoter holding: 56.66%, unchanged for 12 quarters
- Promoter dividend income: ₹5.65 crore
- Of which Sabu M Jacob (34.18%): about ₹3.41 crore
- Public, FII and DII holders: ₹4.32 crore
- FII 1.21%, DII 0.12%, public 42.01% (June 2026)
- Number of shareholders: 99,677
Promoters receive the larger share of the payout. With nearly one lakh retail holders and almost no institutional ownership, the ₹0.50 dividend supports retail sentiment. In economic terms, however, ₹9.98 crore is only 0.83% of gross debt. Using it to repay debt would have saved roughly ₹0.90 crore a year in interest at 9%.
Kitex Garments Limited Dividend Taxation
Dividends are taxed in the shareholder’s hands at their income-tax slab rate. For resident individuals, the company deducts 10% TDS if total dividends from the company in a financial year exceed ₹10,000. The rate rises to 20% if the shareholder has not provided a PAN. Eligible shareholders can file Form 15G or 15H to avoid TDS.
Worked example (₹10 per share)
1,000 shares × ₹10 = ₹10,000 gross. Tax at 31.2% (30% slab plus 4% cess) = ₹3,120. Net income = ₹6,880.
Kitex (₹0.50 per share)
1,000 shares = ₹500 gross, so no TDS is deducted. After tax at 31.2%: ₹344. The effective post-tax yield is 0.29%.
Key Risks for Kitex Garments Limited Shareholders
- Customer concentration in the US: tariff costs are squeezing margins, and EBITDA margin has fallen to 4.3%.
- Interest cover below 1x: EBITDA covers finance cost only 0.63x.
- Credit downgrade: IND BBB+/Negative from India Ratings (Aug 2026) raises the cost of borrowing.
- Audit qualification: the auditors cannot confirm that the ₹27.76 cr Kitex USA investment is recoverable, so a write-down is possible.
- Dilution: a ₹3,000 cr QIP would be larger than the current market cap.
- Low-quality earnings: FY26 profit depended on a ₹17.50 cr write-back, foreign-exchange gains and grants.
What to Monitor at Kitex Garments Limited
- Quarterly EBITDA margin: can it climb back to double digits from 6% in Q1 FY27?
- Warangal and Sitarampur utilisation: the revenue each plant generates against its interest cost.
- Receivables: whether the FY26 cash release reverses once sales recover.
- QIP pricing and size: how much dilution existing shareholders face.
- US–India trade talks: any tariff relief on garments.
- Consolidated net debt: whether term-loan repayments begin to reduce the ₹1,047 cr figure.
- Kitex USA recoverability: whether the auditors drop the qualification or the company records a write-down.
Kitex Garments Limited Dividend: Conclusion
Positives
- Six years of steady ₹0.50 adjusted dividends
- ₹152 cr of cash covers the dividend 15x
- Standalone payout of just 17.5%
Negatives
- 169% consolidated payout; four quarters of losses
- ₹1,047 cr of net debt and a credit downgrade
- Qualified standalone audit
The 50% headline translates into a real yield of just 0.42%, and that yield has risen only because the share price fell. The FY26 dividend is best read as a signal of management’s confidence rather than a payment funded by profits. Investors can judge its future from margin recovery and the pace of debt reduction.
